The Hanko Side Table features solid wood construction, a wood drawer with soft-close/self-closing slides, and an open cubby. The piece works great as a set of flanking side tables matched with the Hanko Bed, and also works well in living room arrangements.
The Hanko Side Table is part of a new family of pieces that was inspired by our travels/study in Finland in 2005. 10 years later, the impact of all the wonderful design objects we experienced and lived with stayed with us. It was a pleasure to see examples of famous Finnish design (buildings and furniture by Alvar Aalto, among many others), but the thing that struck us most of all was that good design seemed to be the norm rather than the exception.
We were able to draw from this experience during the design process for a recent custom project - a bedroom set for local clients - and we are pleased to present what came out of that: The Hanko Series (named after a town in Finland), a collection of functional pieces founded on pared-down forms. The bedroom set turned out great, and the next custom project we embarked on with the same clients yielded the Hanko Chair.
This piece is pictured in solid oak. Because we hand-build all of our furniture, each piece has the mark of a hand-made object, and unique characteristics inherent to the natural beauty and variation of real materials. For more information on materials, click here.
